Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate)

Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) is a naturally occurring, water-soluble derivative of vitamin C. It is the most stable form of vitamin C, meaning it does not oxidize, making it the most suitable choice for cosmetic formulations. It is more stable and bioavailable than magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP), ascorbyl palmitate and ascorbic acid (among other vitamin C derivatives).
Unlike its potent sibling ascorbic acid, it does not favor an acidic environment and requires a pH of approximately 6-7. It is an antioxidant that reduces oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals, effectively slowing the aging process and slowing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. SAP can penetrate the epidermis without causing irritation.

Uses:

Anti-aging
We all know that UVA and UVB radiation from sun exposure causes degenerative effects that accelerate the aging process. Fortunately, SAP has the ability to remove free radicals and reactive oxygen species and render them harmless. SAP is an active ingredient that protects against UV rays and improves the photoprotective properties of sunscreens. This means it prevents sunburn and supports the protective effect of sunscreens. Similarly to a tyrosinase inhibitor, SAP has skin-lightening properties by inhibiting melanin production.

Natural acne-fighting.
In an in vitro study, a moderate 1% concentration of SAP was shown to have potent antimicrobial effects against acne for 8 hours!
Furthermore, a lotion with 5% SAP used for 12 weeks was found to give excellent results in 76.9% of users, significantly more than other prescribed acne medications. Especially since there are NO side effects with these treatments. As a result, sebum oxidation was reduced by up to 40%!
Additionally, other clinical studies have shown SAP to be more effective than 5% benzoyl peroxide, 1% clindamycin phosphate, 0.1% adapalene.
