Soybean oil

Soybean oil (INCI: Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil) is a common ingredient in natural cosmetics and has numerous beneficial properties for the skin. It is obtained by cold pressing soybean seeds, which preserves the naturally occurring active substances such as vitamins, phytosterols, and fatty acids.

Properties of soybean oil in cosmetics:

✅ Rich in vitamins and antioxidants
– Contains vitamin E, which protects the skin from free radicals and premature aging.
– Phytosterols are also present, which have anti-inflammatory effects.

✅ Moisturizing and softening properties
– Acts as an emollient, meaning it softens and smooths the skin and protects it from moisture loss.
– It is a lightweight oil that absorbs quickly, making it suitable even for oily or combination skin.

✅ Promotes skin regeneration
– Linoleic acid (omega-6) helps restore the skin barrier.
– Suitable for delicate, sensitive, or irritated skin.

✅ Compatible with various formulations
– Used in creams, lotions, body oils, balms, soaps, and hair care products.

Possible uses:

Body or massage oil – can be used on its own or with added essential oils.
Base oil in natural ointments and balms**.
Phase oil in emulsions (e.g. moisturizing creams, lotions).
Makeup remover oil – gentle and effective.

Warnings:

* Can oxidize, so it is advisable to combine it with natural antioxidants (e.g. vitamin E).
* Not the most suitable for very long-lasting products without the addition of preservatives.

Soybean oil is a source of vitamin E (23mg/100ml), A, B complex, and all health-beneficial amino acids. The seeds also contain higher amounts of phytosterols and are therefore used for the synthesis of steroids.
