Rosehip oil, cold-pressed, unrefined (orange, red in color)
Country of origin: Chile, Bulgaria, etc.
The medicinal properties of rosehip oil range from cosmetic products to treatments for rheumatoid arthritis.
Rosehip (also known as wild rose) is a shrub up to 5m tall with thorns and flowers that have 5 petals in white or pink. Rosehips cross-pollinate very frequently among themselves, and in Slovenia alone we have more than 20 different varieties of rosehip. Four species of rosehip are important for obtaining cosmetic oils, for which the collective name Rosa mosqueta has become established.
Rosehip oil has a golden yellow to intense red colour (depending on the variety) and a slightly nutty scent. It is composed primarily of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Linoleic acid accounts for about half, while alpha-linolenic acid makes up a quarter. The remainder consists of oleic and palmitic acids. Among the unsaponifiable substances, there is a large proportion of vitamin E (predominantly ϒ-tocopherol), some carotenoids, and trans-retinoic acid, which is a unique feature of this oil. Based on its composition, rosehip oil belongs among unstable oils with a shorter shelf life, so store it in a cool and dark place. Use it in smaller proportions in products (best in night care products) and protect it with antioxidants.
Rosehip oil is frequently used in serums, creams, and lotions. It is recommended to use it together with macadamia or almond oil.
1. Skin moisturisation
Rosehip oil is rich in essential fatty acids such as omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9, which help keep the skin moisturised. It is suitable for dry and sensitive skin, as it absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feeling.
2. Reduction of wrinkles and signs of aging
Rosehip oil contains a high level of antioxidants, particularly vitamins C and A (retinol), which stimulate skin cell regeneration and increase collagen production. This helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation spots, and improves skin elasticity.
3. Treatment of scars and stretch marks
Due to its regenerative properties, rosehip oil is effective in reducing scars (including surgical scars, acne scars, and stretch marks). It helps improve skin texture and tone and promotes tissue renewal.
4. Repair of damaged skin
Due to its high vitamin and antioxidant content, rosehip oil is suitable for treating burns, sun damage, minor wounds, and skin irritation. It soothes the skin and accelerates its recovery.
5. Improvement of skin tone
The oil helps even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Regular use can help improve skin texture and radiance.
6. Hair care
It is also used in hair care, as rosehip oil helps keep the scalp moisturised and promotes hair growth. It also restores dry and damaged hair, making it softer and shinier.
Ways of use:
As a serum: Apply a small amount of oil directly to cleansed facial skin before bedtime.
Addition to creams: You can add it to your day or night cream for extra moisturisation.
Hair care: Apply it to the ends of the hair or massage it into the scalp as a deep treatment.
Rosehip oil is suitable for almost all skin types, but it is always advisable to perform a patch test on a small area of skin to ensure you do not cause an allergic reaction.
