Neem oil
Origin: India
Neem is a medium-sized, evergreen tree native to India, now also found in Africa, Australia, and parts of Asia. This hardy tree also grows in poor soils up to 1,500 m above sea level. Its wood is resistant to termites, making it widely used in construction.
The oil is obtained by cold pressing its fruits, which are very similar to olives and contain up to 45% oil. It is widely used in cosmetics for making creams, ointments, balms, shampoos, lotions, soaps, and toothpastes, as well as products for the care of pets.
It is used to soothe skin problems. It is particularly effective at eliminating head lice and dandruff, and when used in aromatherapy, it creates a purifying effect. It was once even used to treat tetanus. The oil is usually brownish in colour (or in similar shades) and has a moderately strong, earthy scent that is slightly reminiscent of peanuts. It is not used for cooking, but only for external use and cosmetic purposes. Recent findings suggest that the oil may also help with rheumatic conditions.
Neem oil begins to solidify at temperatures below 21 degrees Celsius; in this case, place the bottle of oil in warm water for a few minutes until it liquefies again. The oil has a very bitter taste and an unpleasant smell.
All our butters and oils are intended for cosmetic use!
