The ceramide complex provides the skin with elements that support its renewal and contribute to maintaining a healthy protective skin barrier (hydrolipid barrier). The lipid mixture is derived from plant sources and contains up to 6% lipids in lamellar liquid crystal form (phospholipids and sphingolipids), easily penetrating the skin and improving the skin's ability to retain moisture.

In detail: Ceramides are the most important elements of the hydrolipid barrier. They are properly arranged in lamellar form to act as a membrane while also filling the intercellular space in the stratum corneum of the skin. In addition to the importance of the barrier function, the membrane also controls the cohesion of dead cells (corneocytes). When the skin is dry and cracked, the lipid barrier of the skin is disrupted, the skin is exposed to increased scaling  and this leads to increased transepidermal moisture loss.

The manufacturer conducted a series of in vivo tests and demonstrated that a formulation with ceramides has the desired effect only if the ceramides are present in the so-called lyotropic form (as lamellar liquid crystals). The lipids contained in the CLR ceramide complex are present in a membranous, active structure.

Recommendation: Excessive mixing can partially disrupt the lamellar structure of the complex, so we recommend incorporating the ingredient into the product by hand and avoiding overly vigorous mixing.
