Potassium Sorbate

Potassium sorbate is a salt of sorbic acid (the active ingredient), which acts as a natural preservative. It extends the shelf life of personal care products by up to several months. It can be used in all types of cosmetic products (creams, lotions, shampoos, makeup, sun protection products,…). Its effectiveness is further enhanced by added chelating agents (e.g. EDTA,…).

APPEARANCE: white powder, odorless

SOLUBILITY: easily soluble in cold water phase

pH range of activity: Wide (from 2 to 6.5)

DOSAGE: 0.15–0.3% (when used alone) or 0.1–0.2% (when used in combination with other preservatives)
