Leucidal SF is a probiotic-based preservative made by fermenting lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus, which are capable of inhibiting the growth of other microorganisms. In addition, Lactobacillus produces antimicrobial peptides (called bacteriocins) that provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection.
Using the minimum inhibitory concentration test (the MIC test), the ability to inhibit the growth of various fungi and bacteria was determined. An O/W emulsion with 2% Leucidal SF added was used as the base. Samples were inoculated with the following (most common) microorganisms and incubated for 28 days, after which the procedure was repeated for an additional 28 days.
