Glyceryl Caprylate (Dermosoft® Gmcy)

Glyceryl caprylate is a natural plant-based humectant that, in addition to its moisturising function, also acts as a destroyer of bacteria and yeast fungi, so it can also be used as a preservative. At low concentrations, glyceryl caprylate also acts as a co-emulsifier. In addition, it can be used as a co-preservative – it works particularly well with Dermosoft 1388® Eco.

Solubility: in oils

Melting point: 25–27 degrees C.

pH range of action: 4.0–7.0 (measure the pH value before adding glyceryl caprylate; it should be below 7)

Use concentration: 0.3–1% (Concentration: 0.3 to 0.5% as an antimicrobial agent, 0.5 to 1% as a humectant, 8 to 10% as an emulsifier/co-emulsifier)

pH range of action: 4.0–7.0

Dosage:

– as a preservative (0.3–0.5%)
– as a humectant and softener: approx. 0.5–1.0%
– emulsifier in bath oils and butters 8–10%
