Buriti oil
Origin: Brazil
Buriti is a palm tree found throughout the Amazon basin and central Brazil. This tree with a thick trunk, which can reach up to 30 metres in height, produces brown fruits that are very easy to peel. Brazilians call it the 'tree of life'.
The cold-pressed oil is clear, deep yellow-orange to reddish in colour and has a strong oily scent.
Unrefined buriti oil is exceptionally rich in vitamin E (tocopherols) and is among the richest natural sources of pro-vitamin A (carotenoids) available. The oil retains moisture that is lacking in skin exposed to the sun and, due to its colour, has a naturally occurring protective factor. The rich unsaturated fatty acids in buriti oil help to restore and, by retaining moisture in the skin, provide rehydration of skin cells (when used in combination with moisturisers, of course). It is commonly used in the production of premium skin care creams and is also used for direct application to cuts and burns, primarily due to its beneficial properties and ability to promote healing. When applied to the skin, it leaves a greasy feel.
With appropriate storage conditions (in a cool place, away from direct sunlight) you can expect a shelf life of 6 months to 1 year.
Use is recommended after bathing or showering (also after shaving) — apply with cotton anywhere on the body to clean skin or to hair. Can also be applied before bedtime. For external use only.

Procedure:
1. Melt the mango butter in a double boiler over low heat. Once the butter has melted, turn off the heat and stir in the kukui and buriti oils.
2. Allow the mixture to cool for five minutes, then place the container in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes, or until the mixture begins to turn lighter around the edges of the container.
3. Add the remaining ingredients (essential oils and vitamin) and mix well until you obtain a smooth, spreadable paste.
4. Scrape the butter into the prepared container and store in a dry, dark, and cool place.
The butter prepared in this way is massaged into dry hair so that it can penetrate the hair fibres. The butter can be left in the hair, or if desired, rinsed out with a mild shampoo.
