Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived ingredient commonly used in cosmetics as a natural alternative to retinol, the well-known anti-ageing ingredient. It is found in skincare products such as serums, creams and lotions.

Bakuchiol has been shown to have similar benefits to retinol, such as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin texture and boosting collagen production. Unlike retinol, however, bakuchiol is considered gentler and is less likely to cause skin irritation. This makes it a popular choice for people with sensitive skin who are looking for effective anti-ageing skincare products.

It is suitable for all skin types, from dry, oily, acne-prone and normal to sensitive.

Creams: Bakuchiol creams are thicker and more emollient, making them ideal for those with dry skin. They can be used at night to help plump and restore the skin while you sleep.

Lotions: Bakuchiol lotions are lighter and more fluid than creams, making them ideal for those with oily or combination skin. They can be used during the day to moisturise and protect the skin from environmental factors.

In terms of concentration, bakuchiol is typically used at concentrations of 0.5% to 2%. It is important to follow the instructions on the product label and to patch test the product before applying it to a larger area of skin. In addition, it is always advisable to consult a dermatologist before using a new skincare product, especially if you have any concerns or sensitive skin.

Solubility: in fats, usually added in the cold phase (must not be heated above 75 degrees)

Usage: 0.5–2%

Note: if you use potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate as a preservative in your product, avoid prolonged
exposure to sunlight and heat.
