Rosehip oil, cold-pressed, unrefined, BIO (orange-red colour)
The healing properties of rosehip oil range from cosmetic products to a remedy for rheumatoid arthritis.
Rosehip (also known as wild rose) is a thorny shrub up to 5 m tall with flowers that have 5 white or pink petals. Rosehips cross-pollinate very frequently, so in Slovenia alone we have more than 20 different varieties of rosehip. Four species of rosehip are important for the production of cosmetic oils, for which the collective name Rosa mosqueta has become established.
Rosehip oil has a golden yellow to intense red color (depending on the variety) and a slightly nutty scent. It is composed predominantly of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Linoleic acid accounts for about half, and alpha-linolenic acid for about a quarter. The remainder consists of oleic and palmitic acid. Among the unsaponifiable substances, there is a large proportion of vitamin E (predominantly ϒ-tocopherol), some carotenoids, and trans-retinoic acid, which is a specialty of this oil. Based on its composition, rosehip oil belongs to the unstable oils with a shorter shelf life, so store it in a cool and dark place. Use it in a smaller proportion in formulations (best in nighttime care products) and protect it with antioxidants.
Rosehip oil is frequently used in serums, creams, and lotions. It is recommended to use it together with macadamia or almond oil.
1. Skin hydration
Rosehip oil is rich in essential fatty acids such as omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9, which help keep the skin moisturized. It is suitable for dry and sensitive skin, as it penetrates quickly without leaving a greasy feeling.
2. Reduction of wrinkles and signs of aging
Rosehip oil contains many antioxidants, especially vitamins C and A (retinol), which stimulate the regeneration of skin cells and increase collagen production. This helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, and improves skin elasticity.
3. Treatment of scars and stretch marks
Due to its regenerative properties, rosehip oil is effective in reducing scars (including surgical scars, acne scars, and stretch marks). It helps improve skin texture and tone and promotes tissue renewal.
4. Restoration of damaged skin
Due to its high content of vitamins and antioxidants, rosehip oil is suitable for treating burns, sun damage, minor wounds, and skin irritation. It soothes the skin and accelerates its recovery.
5. Improvement of skin tone
The oil helps even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Regular use can help improve skin texture and radiance.
6. Hair care
It is also used in hair care, as rosehip oil helps keep the scalp moisturized and promotes hair growth. It also restores dry and damaged hair, making it softer and shinier.
Methods of use:
As a serum: Apply a small amount of oil directly to cleansed facial skin before bedtime.
Addition to creams: You can add it to your day or night cream for extra hydration.
Hair care: Apply it to the ends of the hair or massage it into the scalp as a deep treatment.
Rosehip oil is suitable for almost all skin types, but it is always a good idea to perform a patch test on a small area of skin to make sure it does not cause allergic reactions.
