Rosemary essential oil
Latin name: Rosmarinus officinalis
Caution: Rosemary has several chemotypes (1,8-cineole, verbenone, camphor), so take care which one you use,
as safety measures and effects vary greatly!
Countries of origin: Spain, France, Italy, Croatia (our essential oil comes from Spain)
Extraction method: steam distillation of twigs
Note and evaporation rate: top to middle
Cultivation method: conventional
Dominant chemical families: oxides, monoterpenes, ketones
We use it:
- for respiratory problems: expels mucus, aids expectoration, for sinus inflammation, bronchitis…
- for pain and spasms: muscles, stiff joints, menstrual cramps;
- stimulates circulation, digestion and keeps the mind sharp (concentration and memory);
- for skin and scar care, as it promotes regeneration.
Methods of use: in ointments, massage oils, for inhalations, in shampoos, creams and lotions,…
NOTE: Rosemary essential oil is not suitable for application before sleep, as it has a stimulating effect. Among all chemotypes, verbenone is the most suitable for this purpose.
Special warnings: If oxidised, may cause skin irritation. Not suitable for pregnant women (none of the chemotypes). Do not use near the face of infants or young children.
Allergens: linalol, limonene
Aromatherapy tip with recipe:
Pain-relieving bath salt
3 tablespoons unrefined coarsely ground salt
1 drop EO rosemary
1 drop EO juniper
2 drops EO lavender
Preparation: Drop the essential oils into a cup of salt and mix well. The blend is sufficient for a single use.
Use: Pour the bath salt into a tub full of hot water. Relax and enjoy for at least 20 minutes.
The blend helps with pain, tense muscles and has anti-inflammatory properties.
