Interesting facts: Oregano is a bushy herb that grows up to 1 metre tall, has dark green oval leaves and pinkish-white flowers. It originates from Europe and is now cultivated in many countries around the world. Some people confuse it with marjoram, as the two are related and have similar Latin names. It is mentioned in writings dating back 5,000 years; it is said to have been created by the goddess Venus, and Aphrodite was said to be very fond of using it. Even before the Greeks, the Phoenicians and Assyrians wrote about its healing properties. It is widely used in Mediterranean cuisine, especially Italian, and is an essential spice for pizza.
