Natisol® (lipoamino acids)

Lipoamino acids are of plant origin, obtained by acylation of fatty acids from coconut with proline; they are particularly suitable for solubilising essential oils and fragrances in toiletry products and perfumes. They effectively replace ethoxylated surfactants commonly used in cosmetic products. They are biodegradable and therefore permitted for use in natural products as well.

They act as a mild surfactant and an effective cleansing and foaming agent. They are suitable for caring for all skin types, including sensitive skin prone to redness.

They are commonly found in micellar waters, transparently coloured cleansing products, personal hygiene products, toiletry products, and perfumes.

They are available as a clear liquid, which may be slightly yellowish.

Mechanism of action: Solubilises essential oils and fragrances for detergents and perfumes.

Key functions: Eco-solubiliser for essential oils and fragrances. Replaces traditional surfactants.

Usage - Dosage: 0.1 - 5%

Recipe: Moisturising face cream - basic

Ingredients:

70 grams distilled water
10 grams glycerin
5 grams Cocyl Proline (Natisol)
4 grams emulsifying wax
3 grams carrier oil (such as jojoba oil or sweet almond oil)
0.5 grams preservative (such as Cosgard)
0.2 grams vitamin E oil (optional, for additional skin benefits)
Fragrances or essential oils (optional, for scent)

Instructions:

In a heat-resistant container, combine the emulsifying wax and carrier oil.

In a separate container, combine the distilled water and glycerin.

Heat both containers separately in a microwave or using a double boiler until the wax and oil mixture has melted and the water and glycerin mixture is warm.

While stirring continuously, slowly pour the water and glycerin mixture into the oil and wax mixture. This is the emulsification process and should create a creamy blend.

Allow the mixture to cool to approximately 40–45 °C (104–113 °F).

Add the Cocyl Proline (Natisol) to the mixture and stir until fully incorporated.

If adding vitamin E oil or fragrances/essential oils, do so at this stage and mix thoroughly.

Finally, add the preservative and mix well.

Transfer the moisturising cream into a clean, sterilised container or jar.

Allow it to cool and set completely before use.
