Latin name: Eugenia caryophyllata
Countries of origin: Madagascar, Zanzibar, Šri Lanka, Java
Extraction method: steam distillation of flower buds

Predominant chemical families: phenols, sesquiterpenes
We use it:
- for all cold and painful situations, as it warms and acts as a pain reliever;
- for toothache (on the tooth only!);
- for local pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory action, as it promotes circulation;
- for digestive problems: intestinal infections, parasites, promotes digestion and appetite,…
- for chronic inflammation, rheumatism, and arthritis;
- for colds and flu.

Special warnings: May irritate skin and mucous membranes. May inhibit blood clotting. Do not use in
baths, diffusers, or inhalations. Do not use on damaged skin or in cases of kidney disease.
Do not use on infants and children under 2 years of age or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Use at a concentration of up to max. 0.5% and for a short period of time.

Aromatherapy tip with recipe:
Antibacterial oil
15 ml St. John's wort macerate
15 ml calendula macerate
2 drops EO clove bud
3 drops EO sweet marjoram
2 drops EO eucalyptus globulus
3 drops EO rosewood
2 drops EO lime
3 drops EO camphor tree
2 drops EO black pepper
Preparation: Drop the essential oils into a dark 30 ml bottle and rub between your palms (mix
well). Add the macerates (a base oil such as olive or almond may also be used), seal tightly,
label and store in a dark, cool place.
Use: Use the blend for respiratory problems, colds, flu, weakened immune
system,… Apply several times a day to the throat, chest, and soles of the feet.
