Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring molecule in all cells of our body, found in the mitochondria. In the skin it also plays an important role as an antioxidant, protecting the epidermis and dermis from oxidative stress caused by UV radiation and environmental influences. Research has shown that over the years the amount of coenzyme Q10 in the skin, as well as elsewhere in the body, decreases. Coenzyme Q10 is therefore a popular ingredient in anti-aging products.

Coenzyme Q10 penetrates into the deeper layers of the epidermis and also into the dermis*. In cosmetic products it helps reduce oxidative stress in the skin**, slow down chronological aging and photoaging***, and reduce the depth of wrinkles****.

* Research has shown that at least 20% of coenzyme Q10 applied to the skin penetrates to the lower layers of the epidermis, and at least 2% reaches the dermis.
** Studies on keratinocytes have shown that 0.3% coenzyme Q10 acts as a potent antioxidant.
*** Studies on human fibroblasts have shown reduced signs of chronological aging with coenzyme Q10 treatments.
**** Studies on humans have shown that a 6-month treatment with 0.3% coenzyme Q10 reduces the depth of deep wrinkles by 27%.

Use in products for: mature skin, skin with hyperpigmentation, skin with wrinkles and irregularities

Solubility: in the oil phase (for easier and faster dissolution of coenzyme Q10 in oil, you can gently heat the oil in a water bath to 50°C while stirring)

Usage: 0.2–2% (0.2–0.5% in anti-age creams, up to 2% in intensive anti-age serums)
