Babassu oil/butter - BIO

Babassu oil (or butter) is a light, slightly yellowish vegetable oil that is white in solid form. It is extracted from the seeds of the babassu palm (Attalea speciosa), which grows in the tropical regions of South America – mainly in Brazil.

At temperatures up to 24 °C it takes the form of butter, while at higher temperatures it turns into liquid oil. Babassu is used in cooking, cleaning products, and cosmetics, as its composition and properties make it very similar to coconut oil – many people use it as a natural alternative to coconut oil.

Effects and use in cosmetics

Babassu oil feels light and dry on the skin, as it absorbs very quickly and leaves no greasy or sticky feeling.
Due to its unique fatty acid composition, it is excellent for moisturising, softening, and protecting the skin. It binds moisture and gradually releases it into the deeper layers of the skin, keeping it supple, soft, and smooth.

The oil also has a regenerative and soothing effect on the skin's connective tissue. It is suitable for all skin types, including delicate baby skin.

It is used for:

• care of the body and face,

• care of hair and scalp,

• lip balms,

• aromatherapy (in combination with essential oils),

• homemade cosmetics (creams, ointments, soaps).

Instructions for use

Warm a small amount of butter (approximately a teaspoon) between your palms until it melts, then gently massage it into the skin using circular movements.
You can use it:

• as a nourishing body butter,

• as a lip balm,

• as a hair mask,

• or as a base to which you add essential oils of your choice.

Use in products

Babassu oil is also popular in the production of natural soaps (CP and HP processes), as it produces a hard, smooth, and creamy soap.
It also works excellently in ointments, creams, and body butters, where it increases the stability and spreadability of the final product.

The butter is packaged in jars.
