Zinc oxide (non-micronised)

Zinc oxide is an ingredient frequently used in combination with titanium dioxide in sun protection creams.

Formula: ZnO, Does not contain nano particles.

On cosmetic products it is also listed as: zinc whit; chinese white; zinc oxide (non-nano); low temperature burned zinc oxide; zinc white; flowers of zinc; zinc flowers; pigment white 4; philosopher’s wool; Chinese white; Calamine; C1 77947.

Definition: Zinc oxide is white to yellowish in colour, it is an inorganic oxide and is not soluble in water. It occurs in nature as zinc ore, from which zinc oxide is produced synthetically.

Zinc oxide is primarily used as a pigment in paints, printing inks, glass and cosmetics. It is also used in cigarette filters, in the production of rubber and concrete, in colour and plastic coatings, in electronics and as a food additive.

It also has medicinal properties, acting as an astringent and antiseptic.

In ancient times, zinc oxide was used to treat a wide range of skin conditions, from wounds to skin cancer.

Zinc oxide is an effective mineral filter that absorbs both UVA and UVB rays well. It protects the skin and does not penetrate it. The FDA recognises it as a safe ingredient, but only in a form that does not penetrate the skin, does not cause allergies and does not cause inflammation. Ours is not micronised and therefore does not penetrate the skin!

In the cosmetics industry, zinc oxide can be found in: lotions for irritated skin, anti-dandruff shampoos, protective creams, antiseptic ointments, lipsticks, lip balms, loose powders, foundations, blushers, eyeshadows, sun protection creams, after-sun creams, and baby powders.
