Calendula macerate BIO in sunflower oil

Calendula, with the Latin name Calendula officinalis, has been used in medicine since the 12th century. Due to its long flowering period and the belief that it blooms on the first day of every month, it got its name from the Latin word calendus: the first day of the month. Although it is also used in teas and as a spice, its external use is most common. Calendula extract applied to the skin has anti-inflammatory activity, promotes wound healing, soothes and nourishes the skin; in cosmetics it is often found as an emollient and moisturising agent. On the market there are ointments that, in addition to calendula, contain essential oil of lavender or tea tree for even stronger effect. 

If we have a calendula ointment in our home medicine cabinet, it will come in handy both for skin care after sun exposure and as protection against cold, wind, or moisture. Applied in a thicker layer, it will reduce stiffness of heels and elbows, be suitable for scrapes and minor injuries, soothe irritated skin after shaving, protect against the invasion and development of fungi, and guard against aggressive materials and cleaning agents.

Calendula oil is yet another oil with antiseptic properties. It works beneath the skin and is especially effective on pimples full of pus. Apply it directly to the pimple.

Simple recipe for calendula ointment:

50 g calendula oil extract or macerate

3 g beeswax

Heat the calendula oil extract in a water bath. Add the beeswax and stir until melted. Pour into a jar and wait for it to cool. Then close the jar. The calendula ointment is usable for at least one year, after which it gradually begins to lose its potency.
