INCI: Propylene Glycol, Aqua, Allium sativum Bulb Extract
Product Description

INCI: Propylene Glycol, Aqua, Allium sativum Bulb Extract

Garlic extract is in the form of an aqueous propylene glycol solution with a strength of 1:2 (drug:extract).

The active components of garlic are sterols, flavonoids, triterpenes, saponins, alkaloids, glycosides and steroids. The aqueous garlic extract has been shown to have antimicrobial effects on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (Meriga et al. 2012). High fungicidal efficacy of the aqueous extract at a ratio of up to 1:100 has been demonstrated against numerous species of harmful skin fungi (Shamim et al. 2004). In cosmetics it is used for relieving conditions such as psoriasis or baldness (by stimulating microcirculation), as an aid in wound healing, fungal or viral infections and for skin rejuvenation.

The following preservatives have been added to the extract for longer shelf life:
Phenoxyethanol 0.45 %,
Ethylhexylglycerin 0.05 %,
Tetrasodium glutamate diacetate 0.047 %.

The extract can be added to hair shampoos or tonics; it is also suitable for use in creams and facial tonics.

Use: It is water-soluble. Add to products at 0.5 to 5%. The extract is not temperature-stable and loses its antimicrobial efficacy at temperatures above 60 °C (Samuel et al. 2000).
