Emulium® Kappa

INCI: Candelilla, Jojoba/Rice Bran, Polyglyceryl-3 Esters (and) Glyceryl Stearate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate

Emulium Kappa is a natural O/W (oil-in-water) emulsifier, designed for making rich, nourishing, and stable emulsions. It was developed with the aim of creating a silicone-like feel on the skin, so formulations containing it feel luxurious, soft, and pleasant without the use of synthetic silicones.

It forms emulsions with a smooth, creamy texture that leave a gentle protective (occlusive) film on the skin, helping to prevent moisture loss. Due to these properties, it is especially suitable for creams for dry, mature, and dehydrated skin.

Recommendation:
When formulating with Emulium Kappa, we recommend using stabilizers (e.g. xanthan gum) and sufficiently vigorous mixing, as this ensures optimal stability and a uniform emulsion texture.

SAMPLE USE – BASIC RECIPE (O/W CREAM)

Sample formulation (100 g):

Water phase

• Distilled water or hydrolat – 68 g

• Glycerin – 3 g

Oil phase

• Vegetable oil of choice (e.g. almond, apricot) – 12 g

• Shea or mango butter – 4 g

• Emulium Kappa – 5 g

Cool-down phase

• Vitamin E – 0,5 g

• Preservative – as per manufacturer's instructions

Procedure:
The water and oil phases are heated separately to 70–75 °C, then the oil phase is poured into the water phase while stirring. Mix until a homogeneous emulsion is formed, cool down, and add the cool-down phase ingredients. Adjust pH if necessary.

Result: a rich, stable cream with a soft, protective feel on the skin – especially suitable for dry skin.

COMPARISON WITH OLIVEM 1000

Emulium Kappa and Olivem 1000 are both natural O/W emulsifiers, but they create a different feel on the skin.

• Emulium Kappa provides a richer, more protective texture and leaves a gentle occlusive film on the skin that helps prevent moisture loss. It is best suited for dry, mature, and dehydrated skin and for nourishing creams.

• Olivem 1000 creates a lighter, more “skin-like” feel and is a more common choice for light creams and emulsions for normal to combination skin.

If you want a more luxurious, more nourishing feel without silicones, Emulium Kappa is the right choice.
