Chili (seed) essential oil

Chili essential oil (Capsicum annuum) is a rare but very potent oil obtained from chili pepper fruits through steam distillation or (more commonly) by infusing chili in a vegetable oil (which is not a true essential oil but an infused oil). True chili essential oil is extremely concentrated, intensely hot, and must be used with great care.

Properties of chili essential oil:
Appearance and scent: A reddish oil with a strong, warm, slightly smoky aroma.

Main active compounds: Capsaicin (though it may be present in very small amounts in the essential oil), carotenoids, capsaicinoids, essential components such as cineole, limonene, caryophyllene (depending on the distillation method).

Actions:

Strongly warming and stimulating (stimulates circulation)

Analgesic (pain relief, especially for musculoskeletal issues)

Antioxidant

Mildly antiseptic

⚠️ Caution:
This is a strongly irritating oil – never apply it undiluted to the skin!

Recommended dilution %: <0.1% in a carrier oil (that is ~1 drop per 100 ml!)

Not suitable for use on sensitive, damaged skin or mucous membranes.

Do not use on children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, or pets.

Use only with knowledge of aromatherapy or under the supervision of a professional.

Uses:
1. For muscles and joints
In massage oils or balms for local application (e.g. for muscle pain, rheumatism, arthritis).

Often combined with essential oils such as rosemary, black pepper, eucalyptus, ginger to enhance blood circulation.

2. In sports cosmetics
For warming up muscles before activity (in very low concentrations).

In balms for athletes (combined with menthol for an alternating "cold-hot" effect).

3. For improving circulation
In anti-cellulite products (combined with cypress, juniper berries, grapefruit…).

4. Energetic and mental stimulation
Due to its "fiery" character it can act as a tonic for willpower, particularly in oils for support during fatigue and lack of energy (in very small amounts and not in diffusers).
