Propanediol 1,3

Zemea® propanediol is a versatile, 100% plant-based humectant obtained by fermentation of glucose. It is a
naturally derived humectant that replaces glycols (derived from petroleum) in products, such as
propylene glycol and butylene glycol. Its advantages include high purity, it does not irritate the skin and does not cause
hypersensitivity reactions, it improves skin moisture, and has excellent sensory properties. It also improves
the viscosity of products, improves their clarity, increases the foaming of cleansing products, and is thermally
stable.

Studies have shown that the ingredient increases the effectiveness of preservatives and potentially reduces the proportion of
preservative used in cosmetic formulations. It therefore does not act solely as a humectant, but is
also a solvent, emollient, viscosity enhancer, and preservative booster.

The ingredient is used in: facial and body care products, decorative cosmetics, hair care products,
oral care, and deodorants.

Solubility: in water, in the aqueous phase of emulsions (not sensitive to heating)

Usage: typically 1-10%, up to 40% is also possible
